I didn't take many photos during my first day in Malta because it was a humid 90 degrees and I was just trying to stay hydrated. The real reason is that just about everywhere I went was gorgeous and I was just lost in the moments. The city of Valletta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I took a bus over to the neighboring town of Paola. The Hal Saflieni Hypogeum tour was utterly amazing. It is the only prehistoric underground temple in the world (c. 5000 BC), and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Only 80 people per day are allowed entry. No photos are allowed, and it was pretty dark anyway. Google it to see some photos. Very impressive.

While in Paola, I also visited the Tarxien Temples, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

My first day in Malta happened to coincide with police day in Valletta. I was on my best behavior.
