Taormina and beyond

The Teatro Greco-Romano in Taormina was a short walk from the town center. The entire old town of Taormina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The view from behind the Teatro.

The Baia dell'Isola Bella.

Some photos from the old town.

Happened to come across an absolutely magnificent old-world luxury hotel on the coast of Taormina. The hotel is situated in a 16th century palace, complete with period furnishings and artwork, spacious hallways, cloisters, and grand common areas. Gorgeous, elegant landscaping. It was all just stunning and special. If there were ever justification to spend large on a hotel... this is it.

Temporarily left Taormina to spend a day exploring the nearby coastal town of Giardini Naxos.

Through my usual culinary reconnaissance technique, I was able to find what I was seeking: a small, authentic Sicilian, family-run, everything-is-homemade, inexpensive, neighborhood restaurant. There were at least three generations of the family represented. Totally delicious food and a great value.
