Gozo

Today I made an excursion to the neighboring Mediterranean island of Gozo, which is part of the Maltese archipelago.

Took this photo of St. Mary's Tower (a.k.a. fictional Château d'If) on the island of Comino while in transit to Gozo.

Once on Gozo, I visited the mysterious prehistoric megalithic Ġgantija Temples in Xaghra, Gozo. My guide told me that these temples are the oldest free-standing structures on Earth (older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids). The Ġgantija Temples are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This is what the landscape surrounding the site looks like.

While perhaps unintended by the builders of the temples some 6,000 BCE, I noticed among the stones what I interpreted as a face.

Stopped in the village of Dwejra to visit the amazing Azure Window.

The famous Blue Hole divesite.

The limestone arch of the Azure Window is disintegrating, and it is expected that the arch will completely disappear within just a few years. The arch is in a dangerous condition and warning notices are placed to stop people walking over the top of the arch. I carefully walked across the arch, all the way to the end, and took this photo.
