arrival in Oosvleteren

Arrived via rail in Poperinge today. Beautiful surroundings. Everything is either in French or Dutch. No taxi service. Bus service must be arranged at least 2 hours in advance. Certainly no rental cars. I was only there 10 minutes when a very generous local tavern owner had one of her employees give me a lift 12 km to my B&B in Oosvleteren, which is a real working farm. The Belgians are such amazingly nice and generous people.

Once I arrived at my B&B, I thanked the kid who had given me a lift, I had to take a few minutes to really consider where I am. I've never stayed on a working farm before... only took 30 minutes for me to fall in love with it. Turkeys, chickens, horses, mini-horses, ducks, geese, cattle, dogs, and little goat families wandering about. Love all the interesting sounds particularly those coming from all the wild birds. Beautiful. The aroma of this area is amazing, remarkably similar to that of a great Saison in fact.
